Superintendent Calvin J. Harris
Superintendent Calvin J. Harris is originally from Columbus, Georgia. After graduating from Hardaway High School, he joined the United States Army and served for 21 years, traveling extensively across the world. During his military service, he met his lovely wife, Wanita. They married in 1988 and from this union, the Lord blessed them with three beautiful daughters, Shanice, Crystalin, and Gabriella.
Superintendent Harris holds a master’s degree in business administration from Strayer University. He has had the privilege of serving under the leadership of several great leaders in the Church of God in Christ, including Superintendent Leon Ross, Elder Charles Givens, Bishop Tony Campbell, the late Bishop Ted G. Thomas Sr., the late Assistant Superintendent Geno Thomas, and currently Bishop Marc A. Thomas Sr.
Throughout his career, Superintendent Harris has held several leadership roles in his local and jurisdictional churches, including Sunday School Teacher, Bible Study Teacher, Pastor Aide President, Hospitality worker, Jurisdictional Evangelist President, Jurisdictional Trustee, and on numerous other committees and auxiliaries.
In 2004, the Army relocated Superintendent Harris and his family to Fort Gregg/Adams, VA, where they joined the Reconciliation Church of God in Christ. Superintendent Harris was ordained an Elder in 2009 while serving under the leadership of the late Pastor Geno Thomas. After Pastor Geno Thomas passed away in 2012, Superintendent Harris was installed as the Pastor of the Reconciliation Church of God in Christ. He currently serves as the Superintendent of the Richmond/Petersburg District, President of the David C. Love Ministry Initiatives (formerly known as Urban Initiatives), and Co-Chair of the Shepherd Summit for the First Jurisdiction of Virginia.
During his tenure as Pastor, Superintendent Harris established several outreach programs that have flourished and continued to grow, including the Reading Enrichment Academy of Learners (R.E.A.L.), a free after-school enrichment program for kids in grades K-12, the Veterans Outreach Ministry (VOM), that assist veterans with various needs, and the Geno Thomas Memorial Scholarship Fund, which helps high school graduates continue their education. He is also actively involved in various community activities, including mentoring, feeding, and meeting the needs of those in need, nursing home worship service and visitations, Safe Haven (Homeless Ministry), and partnering with other community groups like the Central VA Food Bank, Broken Men Foundation Youth Academy, The Giving Heart Thanksgiving Outreach, and monthly community dinners.
As Superintendent Harris continues his work in the ministry, he constantly seeks God's counsel, wisdom, and direction.
